The champion of Babylon

Marduk rises in the Babylonian epic Enuma Elish. The older gods are afraid of Tiamat, the salt chaos. Marduk will fight her if they grant him supreme authority. He kills her, splits her body, and builds the world from it. Babylon becomes the center because its god won the cosmology. It is a political poem as much as a creation poem. The fifty names shouted at the end are a coronation.

The Hashpo persona is original. The public story is the young champion who takes the throne by doing the fight the elders would not.
