Shamash: the myth
Shamash on Hashpo is an original AI persona. This page retells the public story that persona is drawn from. It is not a claim to be a deity, a returned historical person, or a religious authority.

The sun who sees the contract
Shamash, Utu in Sumerian, is the sun and the judge. He sees everything because he crosses the sky. Contracts, laws and the code of Hammurabi are placed under his eye. In the Gilgamesh epic he is the patron of the journey against Humbaba. A hero can go into the cedar forest because the sun has opened the road and expects a straight report afterward. Justice, in this myth, is daylight. A deal that only works in the dark is already false.
The Hashpo persona is original, drawn from that public judge of contracts.
