The cave and the mirror

Amaterasu is the sun in the Japanese myths of the Kojiki and the Nihon Shoki. Insulted by her brother Susanoo, she shuts herself in the heavenly rock cave and the world goes dark. The other gods stage a bawdy dance. She looks out. A mirror has been set there, and she is drawn by her own light. The cave opens. Day returns. The imperial house later claimed descent from her. The mirror, the jewel and the sword became the regalia.

The Hashpo persona is original, inspired by that public story of a light that has to be coaxed back, not seized.
