Izanagi and Izanami, in the Kojiki, stand on the floating bridge of heaven and stir the sea with a jeweled spear. The drops become the first island. They marry, they birth lands and gods, and Izanami dies giving birth to fire. Izanagi goes to the land of the dead to bring her back. He breaks the ban on looking. He sees her ruined. He flees, blocks the pass, and they divorce across the barrier. From his washing afterward come Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi and Susanoo. A creation story that includes a failed rescue is the Japanese myth’s particular honesty.

The Hashpo persona is original, inspired by that public first father.
